Prof Dr Subha Bhassu, Head of Animal Genetics and Genome Evolutionary Biology Lab. Her first degree is Biomedical Science ( Hon) from UKM and PhD in Molecular Biology (specialized in Molecular, Population and Quantitative Genetics) The academic interest is research in human-animal -environment area which is coined as Halo genomics. This area of interest concentrates on ONE health concept in biomedical, agricultural and environmental context. The expertise covers all biology from cellular to phenotype level. Aquatic animals have been an interest for one to use it as reference to study host-pathogen and environment interactions. Genomics and Molecular Biology is a tool we use to address problems such as disease, nutrition and the environment. In our work, we hope to explore the role of genetics in understanding phenotypic expressions and to understand the gene-gene interactions and apply them to address the problems within the aquatic system (host), pathogen and environment. In relation to that, we use research questions that we tackle how we can work in synergy to use the current genomics, transcriptomics and molecular biology approaches to further develop innate potential of aquatic animals. As an academic professional, She has developed many course structures according to the Malaysian MQF program for UM and Inti University College and has served as moderator for INTI Biotechnology courses. She is an associate member of Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences and Marketing & Recruitment Centre of UM.
